Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Minneapolis, MN earns STAR Program® Certification
Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Minneapolis, MN has earned its STAR Program® Certification from the Massachusetts-based Oncology Rehab Partners, leading experts in the field of survivorship care, making it the first program of its kind to be certified in Minnesota and also the largest STAR Program in the nation.
The Sister Kenny Rehabilitation STAR Program includes nine Allina hospital locations and 14 community-based departments throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute is leading the way by offering excellent cancer rehabilitation services to its patients through becoming STAR Program Certified.
STAR Program Certification uniquely qualifies facilities like Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute to offer premium oncology rehabilitation service to survivors who experience debilitating side effects caused by cancer and treatment. “Teams of STAR Certified Clinicians work closely with patients’ oncology providers, offering these patients timely and expert cancer rehabilitation and survivorship services,” says Nancy Hutchison, MD, Medical Director, Cancer Rehabilitation and Lymphedema Program, Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute and Virginia Piper Cancer Institute.
To receive its certification, Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute completed Oncology Rehab Partner’s unparalleled STAR Program Certification, a conventional medicine and evidence-based standardized model of oncology rehabilitation service delivery, successfully implementing the program’s evaluation and treatment protocols and rehabilitation training. These services are covered by health insurance providers and will be offered to patients by knowledgeable and sensitive medical professionals specially trained to work with survivors of all forms of cancer.
Health care professionals from a pool of disciplines, and in affiliation with Allina’s Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, include physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurse care coordinators and therapy managers. They work together with each patient on a personalized rehabilitation plan to increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and quality of life.
STAR Program Certification from Oncology Rehab Partners provides hospitals and cancer centers with the tools needed to quickly and effectively implement an exceptional survivorship care plan.
Oncology Rehab Partners co-founder Julie Silver, MD, assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, and herself a cancer survivor, states “Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute has a long history of leading the way in excellence in survivorship care based on best practices by a knowledgeable and committed staff. We are proud to announce this institution’s STAR Program Certification.”
